Membership FAQ's

I want to join, but what do I do first?
Either speak to one of the pastors on Sunday morning during the invitation at the end of a service, or fill out a form expressing interest and someone will follow-up with you. Click Here

What kinds of questions will I be asked?

In order to join our church, you must have put your faith in Jesus Christ by receiving Him as your Savior. You will be asked if you have ever made such a commitment. If you have not, it will be explained to you how to make that commitment. You will also be asked if you have been baptized by immersion.

Will I have to be baptized to become a member?

Not if you have committed your life to Christ and have been baptized by immersion in a church that has the same doctrinal beliefs as ours in regards to salvation and baptism. If you are unsure, a pastor will be glad to help you determine if you need to be baptized. If you have not been baptized, you will need to call the New Member’s office at the number below to schedule your baptism. You will also be asked to attend the New Member’s Orientation about which you will be contacted.

I am a member of another Southern Baptist Church. Do I need to notify them that I am joining another church?
No. We will contact your former church, requesting that they transfer your membership to Calvary Baptist Church.

I am a student living in Winston-Salem temporarily. I want to be a part of Calvary, but I do not want to move my membership from my home church. What should I do?
You may choose to join Calvary by "Watchcare." That means that you have all the rights and privileges of membership while remaining on your home church roll.

What if I have accepted Christ, been baptized by immersion, but I am coming from another denomination?
You may join Calvary on your statement of faith and previous baptism. This means you are making a public statement to our church that you have accepted Christ as your Savior, and you have been baptized by immersion.

What else will I need to do?
Once your decision has been clarified, a Decision Counselor will walk you through the biblical response to your decision and answer any questions you may have. He/she will fill out the necessary information and turn it in to the church office. Then, during a future service of your choice, you will return to be introduced to the church so we can celebrate your decision.

If you have other questions, please call the New Member’s Office at 714-5434.
